Cambie Street Bridge construction: traffic delays and detours

“People are encouraged to plan ahead, expect delays and use alternative routes where possible.”

Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists should expect delays and detours on the Cambie Street Bridge in Vancouver starting this week (mid-November 2024) and continuing through spring 2025.

The City of Vancouver announced Tuesday (November 19) details regarding construction work on the bridge deck and its impact on traffic of all kinds using this busy crossing.

“People are encouraged to plan ahead, expect delays and use alternative routes when possible,” warns the City of Vancouver in a press release.

To allow the work, the bridge will have to close certain lanes at varying times, but there will always be traffic in both directions, “with at least one lane always open in each direction,” specifies the City.

Pedestrians and people on wheels can continue to use the bridge, although bike lanes and sidewalks on one side of the bridge will sometimes need to be closed. Detour signage will be put in place to guide you.

While work on the Granville connector continues, the City is committed to coordinating traffic measures between the two major projects in order to minimize impacts.

“Bridges are critical infrastructure that facilitate the movement of people and goods in and around Vancouver. It is important to maintain them regularly,” underlines the City.

The City of Vancouver offers the following tips to guide you through the construction of the Cambie Street Bridge:
