Germany increases visa quota for skilled Indian professionals to 90,000 per year; Check details

Germany plans to significantly increase the number of visas issued to qualified Indian professionals, raising the annual cap from 20,000 to 90,000. The four-fold increase aims to strengthen economic and professional ties between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi made the announcement on Friday during his speech at the 18th Asia-Pacific German Business Conference. “We have drawn up a road map for Viksit Bharat for the next 25 years. I am happy that at this important time, the German cabinet has released the ‘Focus on India’ document… Germany has decided to increasing the number of visas for the Indian skilled workforce will increase from 20,000 to 90,000 people. This will give a new pace to Germany’s growth,” Modi said.

Germany’s new visa policy highlights the country’s growing interest in accessing India’s skilled workforce. With the cap increasing from 20,000 to 90,000 visas per year, Indian professionals from various sectors such as information technology, engineering, healthcare and many others will enjoy better opportunities to work in Germany.

The decision to increase the visa quota is seen as part of a broader initiative to strengthen economic and technological collaboration between India and Germany. Indian skilled workers have long been recognized for their expertise in critical fields such as technology, medicine and engineering, which are vital to Germany’s high-tech industries. The move is expected to enrich Germany’s workforce with highly skilled professionals, boost economic growth and help address skilled labor shortages.

Germany is currently experiencing a demographic shift due to its aging population, leading to increasing labor shortages in various sectors. By increasing visa limits for Indian skilled workers, Germany seeks to fill this gap and ensure its industries continue to thrive despite domestic challenges. The influx of skilled Indian professionals is expected to strengthen critical sectors such as IT, engineering and healthcare, which are key to maintaining Germany’s status as the world’s largest economy.

The increase in the number of visas awarded is expected to simplify the process for Indian professionals seeking work in Germany, potentially streamlining immigration procedures and facilitating smoother transitions. The development is also likely to strengthen bilateral relations between India and Germany, opening the door for future collaboration in the areas of education, research and professional training.
