Neighbors weigh in on the impact of political signage in communities

As the elections approach, political signs are everywhere.

In cities, neighborhoods, and even streets, opposing street signs reside.

Mark Schreiber’s sign in support of presidential candidate Donald Trump sits just steps away from his neighbor’s sign in support of presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

“It hasn’t been brought up,” Schreiber said. “My neighbors and I are very close friends.”

Schreiber said he hasn’t had any negative experiences because of his signs.

Others have had different experiences.

Ron, who preferred to be identified by his first name only, said the only negative experience he had was having some of his signs stolen.

Ron has signs supporting candidates Kamala Harris, Lucas Kunce and Crystal Quade.

“Some of them have been kidnapped,” Ron said. “But that’s all.”

Jack Kramer also said he has had signs stolen, but has had no other negative experiences because of his signs.

“Political signs in yards, I don’t see a problem with it as long as others respect it. I myself have had signs removed in my yard,” Kramer said.

Kramer said seeing people’s political signs in their yards impacts how he perceives them. “It’s true. I can’t say no,” he said.

Kramer also said he has “good friends” who have opposing views and they are still his friends.

Schreiber said he sees no problem with the political signs and that they don’t change the way he views his neighbors.

“I think we need to be respectful of each other,” he said. “It’s a shame when people get to the point where they let it interfere with their relationships.”
