The American electorate has shifted to the right in 2024 due to factors including economic discontent, immigration issues, and fears of a “woke” culture. However, many voters’ perceptions do not match reality. Misinformation has spread widely on social media, in part thanks to Elon Musk’s X, which amplified election lies. Navigating a reality increasingly undermined by lies is a growing concern, says Mary Anne Franks, a law professor at George Washington University. “There are things we can decide as a country that are too harmful and undermine democracy,” Franks says. “Without access to the truth, we cannot have democracy. »
