American midfielder Malik Tillman scores in PSV Eindhoven’s 4-0 win over Girona in the Champions League

American midfielder Malik Tillman scored one goal and set up another as PSV Eindhoven beat Spanish side Girona 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Tillman set up Ryan Flamingo for the Dutch club’s opening goal, then scored in the 33rd minute beating Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga at his near post.

It was Tillman’s first Champions League goal for PSV since joining the club from Bayern Munich in 2023. He helped the team win the Dutch league title in his first season.

Tillman almost created a third after the break, but Luuk de Jong’s shot came back off the post.

Girona defender Arnau Martínez was sent off with his second yellow card for a foul on de Jong shortly after.

Johan Bakayoko scored late on before a Ladislav Krejčí own goal – his second of the competition – completed PSV’s victory. It was the Dutch champion’s first victory in the league phase after an initial defeat against Juventus followed by two draws.

Girona has one victory and three defeats in its competitive debut so far.

Dinamo Zagreb handed Slovan Bratislava their fourth consecutive defeat in the competition as the visitors came from behind to win 4-1 in Bratislava.

Tuesday’s final matches included AC Milan’s visit to Real Madrid in a clash between the competition’s most successful clubs. Madrid’s title win last season was a record 15th, followed by Milan with seven titles.

Also later, Xabi Alonso returned to Liverpool with his team Bayer Leverkusen, German champions. Alonso helped Liverpool win the Champions League title in 2005 after going three goals down in the second half against Milan.
