Rowdy crowd in Los Angeles lights bus on fire, breaks into stores to celebrate Dodgers victory

Crowds gathered in Los Angeles for Game 5 of the World Series became rowdy and engaged in illegal activity Wednesday night, after the LA Dodgers officially won the titleleading to at least a dozen arrests.

The Dodgers beat the New York Yankees in one of the greatest World Series in decades. The game was particularly notable because it featured two of Major League Baseball’s most important and historic teams.

On Wednesday night, West Coast mobs set fire to a city bus, broke into stores and set off fireworks. Some members of the party also threw objects at police in downtown Los Angeles after officers asked the crowd to disperse. No injuries were reported, according to the Associated Press.

“The overwhelming majority of celebrations last night were joyful and peaceful,” Mayor Karen Bass said at a news conference Thursday. “We will work to keep Angelenos safe as always… (and) violence of any kind will not be tolerated.”

The city’s celebrations are expected to continue this week, including a victory parade on Friday, followed by a celebration at Dodgers Stadium. The Los Angeles Police Department will be on alert for the rest of the week and next week for the presidential election.

LAPD officials encouraged partygoers not to set off illegal fireworks during their celebrations or invade city intersections this weekend. City officials also urged fans who will not participate in Friday’s events to work remotely that day due to the large crowds associated with the parade and celebration.
