Caleb Williams actually apologized to his Bears teammates for his role in firing Shane Waldron

It’s been a tumultuous few weeks for the Chicago Bears. They haven’t scored a touchdown since Halloween, they haven’t won a game since mid-October and Head coach Matt Eberflus’ seat is now hot after the dismissal of former offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.

However, part of the microscope still needs to focus on the No. 1 overall pick, Caleb Williams. While there have been flashes of Williams’ individual talent and gifts early in the season, the franchise quarterback hopeful has been a shell of himself as the Bears’ offense s collapsed mid-season. For reasons related to him (and his overall circumstances), Williams doesn’t look like the player many thought could lead Chicago out of the NFC basement. He really should know “It’s not his fault.”

And as Fox’s Jay Glazer reports, Williams didn’t shy away from that reality. He apparently apologized to the Bears for playing so poorly lately that he helped get Waldron fired:

I credit Williams for recognizing the elephant in the room and taking some responsibility as the team’s quarterback. This is especially true when you know that it’s not all your fault. Yet, at the end of the day, the NFL is a results-driven business. Actions speak louder than words.

For the Bears, it would be nice if Williams started backing up those kinds of moves with stellar play on the field.
