Douglas County Breaks In-Person Early Voting Record; morning turnout close to 50% – The Lawrence Times

Douglas County voters who cast ballots early in person broke the previous record by more than 5,300 votes, and overall turnout through 10:30 a.m. Tuesday was approaching 50%.

The previous high for in-person early voting was 15,637 in the 2016 general election, Douglas County Clerk Jamie Shew said Thursday.

Douglas County Voters had already broken the record ahead of early voting on Saturday. Statistics available Tuesday morning gave the final total of early in-person votes cast — 20,946, or about a quarter of the county’s 83,165 registered voters.

Here is a table of in-person early votes, broken down by party:

More than 11,600 early ballots were also returned to the elections office Tuesday morning, with early votes altogether accounting for about 39% of the county’s voters.

On Election Day, turnout is also poised to be high, with several more hours of voting remaining.

Here are the turnout numbers for each polling location through 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, as posted by the Douglas County Clerk’s Office. In total, 41,322 voters voted, or 49.69% of voters.
