FEMA official fired for directing hurricane relief away from Trump supporters’ homes

A Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) official who requested Hurricane Milton aid workers must leave their homes with Asset signs have been removed from its role, a FEMA spokesperson told Fox News, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis federal agency investigating controversy.

The FEMA official, who was not named by the agency, asked visiting workers Lake Placid In Florida to “avoid homes advertising Trump,” as they checked which residents qualified for federal aid, according to internal messages first obtained by the Daily Wire.

The Daily Wire reports that government employees told the outlet that at least 20 homes displaying Trump signs or flags were bypassed between late October and November due to the official’s “best practices.” The houses were jumped by workers, who wrote messages such as: “Trump does not sign any entry by management,” in a government system, according to the media outlet.

A FEMA spokesperson told Fox News it was “deeply disturbed” by the employee’s actions and said it was an “isolated incident.”

“FEMA helps all survivors, regardless of political preference or affiliation,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

“While we believe this to be an isolated incident, we have taken steps to remove the employee from his position and are investigating the matter to prevent this from happening again.”

It’s unclear whether the official has been fired from the agency altogether.

“The employee who issued these directives had no authority and received no instructions to tell crews to avoid these homes, and we are reaching out to people who may not have been contacted at the following this incident,” the spokesperson said, adding that the agency assisted more than 365,000 households affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton in Florida and provided nearly $900 million in direct assistance to survivors.

“We are horrified by what happened and so we have taken extreme measures to rectify this situation and ensured that the issue is addressed at all levels.

FEMA agents ordered not to assist homes displaying Trump signs in Highlands County, a deep red area in south-central Florida that has been hit by tornadoes, torrential rain and flooding when the Category 3 hurricane hit The Sunshine State in October. President-elect Trump won nearly 70% of the vote there on Tuesday.

DeSantis criticized the federal agency Friday after learning of the official’s actions and announced his administration would investigate the incident with FEMA.

“The blatant militarization of government by partisan activists within the federal bureaucracy is another reason why the Biden-Harris administration is in its final days,” DeSantis wrote on X.

“Under my leadership, the Division of Emergency Management is launching an investigation into the federal government’s targeted discrimination against Floridians who support Donald Trump. New leaders are on their way to Washington, and I am hopeful that these bureaucrats supporters will be fired.”

The U.S. House Oversight Committee and Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., also took aim at the agency, particularly for failing to fire the official.

He said this comes despite attempts by the IRS to force whistleblower Gary Shapley out of that agency. Shapley, an IRS supervisory special agent, brought allegations of political influence in the Hunter Biden investigation to Congress, alongside IRS criminal investigator Joseph Ziegler.

“FEMA didn’t fire this person…But the IRS tried to force IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley to resign for blowing the whistle! We must hold these unelected bureaucrats accountable” , Comer wrote on X.

“FEMA admits this happened but does not say whether the bureaucrat responsible was fired,” the House Oversight Committee wrote on accountability and make it almost impossible to fire bad employees. This is why we need President Trump’s reforms to hold bureaucrats accountable.

Donald Trump Jr., the president-elect’s son, also lambasted the agency.

“This is outrageous even for Democrats in power and should be criminal,” Trump Jr. wrote on X. “These people should be kicked out of FEMA, government and society! A thorough investigation is required!”
