Slow down and buckle up, Alabama state troopers urge this holiday week

Slow down, buckle up and have your driver’s license ready.

That’s the message from leaders of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, who are urging drivers to use caution this weekend and throughout Thanksgiving week. And more soldiers will be visible along the roads, providing added incentive.

Alabama State Troopers will conduct checkpoints targeting high collision areas along busy corridors, in partnership with local law enforcement.

Checkpoint activities will include driving license checks. Officials say the campaign aims to reduce accidents, injuries and deaths this season.

Strengthened enforcement will continue until December 1.

“The Thanksgiving holiday marks the start of a valuable time of year,” Col. Jonathan Archer, director of ALEA’s Department of Public Safety, said in a statement. “Tragically, many Alabama families suffer losses due to preventable traffic accidents caused by drunk driving, speeding and failure to wear seat belts. »

Archer emphasized that proper seat belt use is the best defense against impaired, aggressive and distracted drivers.

“No matter how long your journey is, it is essential that drivers and passengers fasten their seat belts. Every trip. Every time,” he said.
