    If you haven’t been paying attention to the Sunshine State news headlines over the past 10 years: “Florida Man” isn’t just a phrase that HBO inspired TV shows And Netflix. This is what we call the kind of person who attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean in a hamster wheel or throw a live alligator into a Wendy’s drive-thru window.

    Last February, an Olympics of sorts for those who consider themselves “Florida men” took place in St. Augustine, with teams of men competing in challenges like “sumo belly wrestling.” of beer” and an “obstacle course to escape arrest”.

    Florida Men’s Games officially return in 2025. And although the window to apply online has closed, the games will hold tryouts this weekend for the Florida men. And women who want to compete and who have not yet registered.

    Here’s how to try to compete in the 2025 Florida Man Games near St. Augustine and what will change in games next year.

    Where are the Florida Man Games?

    The Florida Man Games were held at Francis Field in downtown St. Augustine on Saturday, February 24. But next year, the games will be held in a new location, according to a press release from the games organizers earlier this year.

    “Just when the world thought Floridians couldn’t make Florida wilder, they did. The Florida Man Games returns on March 1, 2025, and how they were secured for the second round, no one will ever know,” the press release states.

    “This irreverent competition, where the state’s most unruly residents serve as demigods of athletic prowess, gets even weirder with new competitions, crazier teams and a whole new venue.”

    At the 2024 Florida Man Games, teams of Florida men competed in challenges such as a pool noodle and mud duel, an “evade arrest” obstacle course, a drug seizure Category 5 hurricane wind money, beer belly sumo wrestling in Florida and more.

    There was also a “Florida Madam” a pin-up contest and other activities for participants, such as chicken bingo and a mullet competition.

    The obstacle course to evade arrest will return at the 2025 Games, with new challenges like “the Florida Sumo Cage Match” and plenty of room for tailgating. The event will move its location and date next year to the St. Johns County Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

    “We are expecting even larger crowds at next year’s event, so it made sense to move to the St. Johns County Fairgrounds, where we will have more space, an indoor arena, and this year we are excited to introduce an RV tailgate area,” Pete Melfi, organizer and founder of the Florida Man Games, said in the press release.

    Florida Man Games to hold tryouts for 2025 games

    The games are no longer accepting video applications in September, but there will be an additional chance to try out for the games during the first-ever Florida Man Games scouting combine this weekend.

    New additions to the games’ requirements this year include the scouting pool and the requirement of one woman on each team. Teams that have already applied will still be required to participate in tryouts. And if you haven’t yet assembled a team to apply, you can still apply and register for trials on the site.     “The in-person tryouts are in addition to those who have (sent) videos, and those who have sent videos must participate in the in-person tryouts this year,” Melfi told the USA TODAY Network.

    “Also, the Florida Women are mandatory for every team this year, so we are expecting some great performances from the ladies. This tryout will take place at the wrestling school of a current WWE Superstar and it will be present at the tests.”

    The scouting gathering will take place on Sunday, November 17 at 11 a.m. EST.

    “They found a real Florida Man to run the tryouts,” the press release said. “WWE superstar and Florida native Sam Shaw is hosting the tryouts at his famous wrestling school, Hatchet Pro Wrestling.”

    You can register your team online or show up in person on the day of testing. In-person registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. at 50 Ellis Street, Suite 203, St. Augustine, Florida.

    Here are the requirements:

    • Only 12 teams will be accepted, each representing a different city to compete in the 2025 Florida Man Games.
    • You must compete with a team: Teams must consist of three to five members, all aged 18 or over, with at least one aged 21 or over. You must have a woman on your team for the 2025 games.
    • You must be a Florida resident: All team members will be required to provide proof of Florida residency.

    Here are the events to expect during practice on Sunday, November 17:

    • Florida sumo: Sumo in a professional wrestling ring and try not to spill your beer.
    • Alligator Throw: Throw the alligators through the drive-thru window and run over the attendant.
    • Militarized Pool Noodles: Gladiator jousts with armed pool noodles and lots of duct tape.
