Mother intentionally crossed Niagara Falls with her two children, police say

NIAGARA FALLS, New York (WBNG/Gray News) – Search and rescue efforts for a mother and her two children after they passed through Niagara Falls were unsuccessful, police say.

New York State Police reported that Chaianti Means, 33, climbed the guardrail and intentionally crossed Niagara Falls with her children, Roman Rossman, 9, and Mecca Means, 5 months.

It appears that all three are from the town of Niagara Falls.

Police responded around 9 p.m. on October 28 to where the three allegedly crossed the rail on Luna Island, a small island between American Falls and Bridal Falls.

Police determined the incident was “intentional in nature.” However, police noted that the circumstances were still under investigation.

On Wednesday, search and rescue efforts were unsuccessful and Means and the children were believed to have died.

There is no threat to public safety.

New York Park Police Unmanned Aircraft Systems, NYSPP Marine Patrol, NYSP Aviation, Underwater Recovery Unit, Niagara Falls Police Department and Niagara Charter Schools are assisting state police in the investigation.
