Beaumont home shut down by Alberta sheriffs

Alberta sheriffs have shut down a Beaumont home that they say has been the subject of several police complaints this year.

Sheriffs said the activity at the 4805-44 Ave. home. had been the subject of five complaints since March 8, with 19 “incidents” on the property between February and August.

Five other incidents were linked to the property and local RCMP said the home had a “long history of association” with drug and criminal activity.

Officers from the Safer Communities and Neighborhoods (SCAN) unit closed the property on Tuesday under a court order against the owner.

The calls to police “have had a troubling impact on the community,” said Beaumont RCMP Cmdr. David Marentette.

“With today’s closure, the SCAN Unit and RCMP are mitigating the neighborhood’s long-standing nuisance and safety threat associated with this property,” added Insp. Karleen Schenkey.

The existing lease or rental agreement was terminated and everyone was forced to leave the house.

The property will be closed and secured until February 10, with SCAN officers monitoring the property while they investigate.
