Delaware County’s 3-day rain total is higher than previous 3-month total

It might do good Saturday to shake off the cold, wet weather of the previous three days, but better yet, more precipitation fell in those days than the entire total of the previous 90 days.

At Philadelphia International Airport, 1.11 inches were recorded for the period, surpassing the 1.08 that had been the total recorded from Aug. 20 to Nov. 18. The amount of rain that fell slightly exceeded forecasts.

It’s a start.

THE Drought Watch issued by the state Department of Environmental Protection remains in force, with a voluntary reduction of 5 to 10% in water consumption recommended by the agency.

There are chances of rain this week during the periods Monday evening through Tuesday and Thursday through Friday. Daytime highs will likely be above normal until a cold front arrives Tuesday, dropping those highs back into the 40s.

It looks like a cold and wet Thanksgiving is coming.

The normal high temperature is 53 degrees, decreasing to 52 over the next few days. The average temperature for the month at the airport through Friday is 54.4 degrees, almost 6 degrees above normal.

It’s too early to tell how well this surplus will hold up to the last week of the month and where the month will end in terms of the 10 warmest Novembers.

Shortly before the rainy days arrive, the Philadelphia region set record for driest 90-day stretch on record with these 1.08 inches. It was well below the previous driest 90-day period of 1.95 inches in the fall of 1922. The record period begins in 1871.
