    A supermoon occurs when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth in its orbit, making it appear larger and brighter than usual.

    Supermoons occur because the Moon’s orbit is elliptical, meaning its distance from Earth varies. When a full moon coincides with this closest approach, it can appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than a typical full moon.
