Butler County Voters’ Perspective: Theresa Wolf

County: Butler

Donald Trump was heavily favored by Butler County voters, 65% of whom gave him their vote in 2020, compared to 33% who voted for Biden. The rural county — its population is less than 200,000 — is heavily Republican, but in the town of Butler, which is the county seat, there has been a notable increase in the number of signs for Kamala Harris scattered among the many signs Trump-Vance. It’s also the area that gained notoriety this election season as the scene of Trump’s first assassination attempt.

Voter: Theresa Wolf

Wolf, 61, who moved from Allegheny County to Butler four years ago, was a Republican until 2020, when she changed her voter registration to Democrat and voted for Joe Biden. This year, she says she supports Kamala Harris.

“I’ve seen changes there since… 2020, and even before that, there really seems to be a division, even between neighbors. You know, we always have neighbors who help each other, but there is tension between neighbors who don’t share the same ideals or who don’t share the same views.

And the sense of community that I think really exists in Western Pennsylvania, in Butler County, you know, we’re all hard-working people, you know, and we need to stick together. We can be stronger together, and that’s what I hope this election can change.”

She taught seventh grade for 30 years and said being an educator influences her opinions.

“You know the fears of Project 2025 which said: ‘Oh, well, we don’t need the Ministry of Education.’ Of course, we need the Department of Education, almost every school district, either it’s a rich, upper-middle class school district, and those school kids are getting what they need, or it’s is a school where the haves and the haves are found. not. We must ensure that public schooling is accessible to every child, regardless of where they live.

Why is she voting for Harris?

“I’m voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, because they’re honest people, because I really believe them, and it’s hard, you know, for people to say that there are alternative truths. There is a truth, and the truth is love one another, as I have loved you, protect everyone. Everyone is welcome here, you know. And these are Christian ideals that I’m voting for for the Democratic Party, for Kamala Harris, for Tim Walz, because I believe they will represent and work for all Americans, not just those who look like them, who sound like them, or who adore. like them or belong to the same economic demographic group as them.
