Is George Kittle playing this week? Injury update, fantasy outlook for 49ers TE ahead of SNF vs. Cowboys

The 49ers offense is well known for its weaponry in almost every position group. This is an offense that seems to feature multiple All-Pro talents every year. However, the arsenal of weapons might be a little depleted on Sunday Night Football this week.

Running back Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) and receiver Brandon Aiyuk (ACL) will miss this one due to injury. Deebo Samuel is questionable due to a case of pneumonia that resulted in a brief hospital stay. But it doesn’t stop there, George Kittle has been dealing with a foot injury throughout the week.

Kittle is widely considered the most versatile tight end in the NFL and is a key part of San Francisco’s offense. Let’s check in for the latest updates regarding his availability for Week 8 as the 49ers prepare to take on the Cowboys.

Will George Kittle play this week? 49ers TE injury update

George Kittle is no stranger to the coaching room and seems to appear on the injury report almost every week. This week, a foot problem prevented him from training on Wednesday and limited his participation the following two days. Kittle was officially deemed questionable before Sunday Night Football.

Given that Kittle regularly draws questionable designations just to keep playing, it’s hard to think he’s letting this one go. But hey, you never know and it’s a situation worth monitoring. Check back here often where we will provide updates as they become available.

49ers TE depth chart: Who is George Kittle’s replacement?

Kittle already missed Week 3 with an unrelated injury, so we know how Kyle Shanahan is handling his tight end room in his absence. San Francisco’s coaching staff is using Eric Saubert as a near-one-on-one replacement for Kittle.

Saubert played 86 percent of the snaps in Week 3 and would likely fill a similar role if Kittle couldn’t suit up this week. Saubert has never been much of a receiving threat, but could be in line for a career day due to injuries to the 49ers receiving corps. Regardless of his receiving performance, expect him to be on the field quite often if Kittle doesn’t play.

George Kittle Fantasy Outlook Week 8

For seven weeks, Kittle was one of the few tight ends that fantasy managers didn’t get frustrated with. He is the TE1 per game and is the only tight end who averages more than 15 PPR points per game.

Barring injury, Kittle will be in the top 5 almost every week this season. It’s the TE1 in Sports News TE rankings this week and should be a starter in every league if he is able to play. Kittle was already an elite TE and has even higher prospects in the absence of Aiyuk and potentially Samuel. He will be a focal point of San Francisco’s passing attack this week if he takes the field.
