‘Being optimistic’ will be crucial for Michigan State’s future

When you’re coming off a loss as lopsided as Michigan State’s loss to Indiana on Saturday — with just three games left on the schedule — it’s hard to keep your head up.

Michigan State had a chance to bounce back from its road loss to Michigan in Week 9 by upsetting a top 15 team in Indiana. Instead, almost everything that could have gone wrong did.

It didn’t seem like it at first when the Spartans took a promising 10-0 lead early in the second quarter, but for the second week in a row, they let things get out of hand and were never able to pull away. to put back.

There’s only so much a team can take when they suffer losses like this at what is the most critical time of the season.

Luckily for Michigan State, they have another bye week left, another chance to take. takes a breath and pulls himself together before entering the last quarter of his season.

“I don’t think it’s always about being positive, I think it’s about being optimistic, knowing we can work some things out,” Michigan State coach Jonathan said Smith, after the match. “You (can) do all these locker room talks, it’s all about words turning into actions. Again, I’ve loved this group from the beginning. I think these guys will come back. They’re disappointed, pulling, even embarrassed there, but I’m pretty confident they know what’s in store for them. They’ve had three more opportunities to feel good again over the course of a season.

The next bye week will be very different from the first. But the goal will be the same: win the following week, like the Spartans did against Iowa.

“We went deep into the six games (during the first bye week); now we’re only talking about three,” Smith said. said“but it gives us the opportunity to maybe look at some other ideas and then re-emphasize what we see from these last three combined with the six that we’ve seen and maybe come up with one or two new avenues in some areas we need to improve.”

The Spartans will come out of the bye week looking to defeat Illinois on the road before finishing their season with back-to-back home games at Spartan Stadium.
