‘Not now!’ Lions fans roar at flight attendant during field goal – NBC New York

The roar of the Lions fans could be heard 30,000 feet in the air.

He first addressed a flight attendant whose announcement had interrupted the broadcast of the team’s winning basket on Sunday Night Football.

It then got louder when Jake Bates kicked a 52-yard field goal as time expired to complete a thrilling comeback in Detroit’s 26-23 win over the Houston Texans.

The flight began its descent into Detroit’s Wayne County Metropolitan Airport just as the Lions lined up for the field goal with four seconds left in a tie game.

Many passengers on the flight were watching the game on their seat screens when the audio broadcast stopped and the message “An announcement is in progress…” appeared.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to welcome you on board this evening…” the flight attendant said, as shown in a video posted by one of the passengers.

“No!” a passenger shouted.

“Not now!” another responded.

“Don’t waste it!” » pleaded another.

Typically, the final announcement of the flight just before landing is a reason to rejoice. But not when it interrupts another potential celebration.

Passengers’ mood had changed in the second half as the Lions recovered from a 23-7 halftime deficit. A nine-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Amon-Ra St. Brown brought them within 23-20 early in the fourth quarter. Bates then converted a 58-yard field goal with 5:01 left to tie the score at 23-23.

The kicker was looking to complete the comeback just as the flight attendant took the microphone to make the announcement, causing the passengers to react as if a referee had just made a terrible call.

“My apologies,” the flight attendant said before pausing her announcement.

Bates’ kick then sailed just inside the upright as time expired, sparking a mid-air celebration.

The Lions, with their seventh straight victory, improved to 8-1. And the flight attendant probably got a nice ovation after finally making her announcement.
