How to get more hourglasses in Pokémon TCG Pocket

Hourglasses are special items in Pokémon TCG Pocket which allow you to open packages and start a miracle selection sooner. While you can usually only open a pack every 12 hours, you can use a Hourglass Pack to reduce this timer by one hour. You can also use Wonderful Hourglasses to reduce the wonder selection timer by one hour each.

There are many ways to get your hands on Pack Hourglasses and Wonder Hourglasses, so you need to make sure you play all aspects of the game to earn them. It’s possible that future features and limited-time events will also grant hourglasses, but that’s what’s available at launch.

Below we list all the methods we know to get Pack and Wonder hourglasses. Pokémon TCG Pocket and explain how to use hourglasses.

How to use hourglasses in Pokémon TCG Pocket

To use your Hourglass Pack, select the pack you wish to open and simply select the “open a pack” or “open 10 pack” button (depending on how many hourglasses you have and wish to spend). This will encourage you to spend your hourglasses to open the pack, provided you have some in reserve.

For Wonder Hourglasses, you will need to do the same, only for Wonder Picks. Select a pack you want to choose from and follow the instructions to fill the required amount of wondrous stamina. The game will automatically set the correct amount of Wonder Hourglasses to use to begin your selection.

You will receive a pack of four hourglasses from you daily missions. The missions themselves aren’t too difficult and you only need to complete three of the five missions presented to get your daily dose of hourglasses. To achieve them, you will need to do three of the following:

  • Open 1 booster
  • Open 2 boosters
  • Wonder Pick 1 time
  • Participate in 1 battle

Note that there are 12 missions to complete, which means you don’t have to do them all to get this big reward.

These missions include things you’ll do as you play the game naturally, so you don’t need to go very far to complete them.

Complete the combat guide and single-player card battles

You will get a small handful of Hourglasses Pack if you complete the tutorial for battles and then the solo card battles who come after. Each of the seven tutorials will give you two Hourglass Packs for a total of 12.

There are seven single-player battles per difficulty and each difficulty rewards a different number of Pack Hourglasses (the higher the difficulty, the more you get). The only exception is on Expert difficulty, where there are only six battles. The rewards are as follows:

  • Intensified battles for beginners: 2 hourglasses each
  • Step-up Battle Intermediate: 3 hourglasses each
  • Step-up Battle Advanced: pack of 5 hourglasses each
  • Intensive Combat Expert: Pack of 7 hourglasses each

That said, you won’t be able to erase everything right away. While we were able to clean up beginner-level battles fairly quickly with the first few cards, later expansions require more strategy and more cohesive decks (rather than just putting together what you got in your first few packs).

Buy them with store receipts

You can buy each type of hourglass in the store for two people. store tickets each. You can get store tickets from other players who thank you, rate your collection, and complete solo battles. Each single-player battle also has specific challenges that will give you additional store tickets, so be sure to pay attention to what you need to do before heading into battle.

Level up by fighting and collecting

You’ll get a handful of hourglasses every time you level up, which isn’t much different from the methods above, since you have to fight and open packs to get XP. That being said, if you’ve noticed that some hourglasses have appeared in your inventory and you don’t know where they came from, it’s probably from leveling.

Collect cards from thematic collections

Collecting certain cards will allow you to complete sets which will sometimes reward hourglasses. You can view them by opening your missions menu and selecting the “thematic collections” button in the lower right corner. Some missions are listed, but a few of them are hidden and will only appear when you complete them. For reference, Serebii.net has a useful list of all Thematic collections (even the hidden ones).

For a few dollars: get them through premium missions

If you want to pay for the $9.99 Premium monthly subscription, you can get up to 11 Hourglass Packs and eight Wonder Hourglasses by completing the premium missions. Missions seem to reset every month (the next month being December, since the game just released on October 30th and giving you 48 hours to complete a month-long mission seems cruel).
