Sarah Drew Details Mother-Daughter Swiftie Halloween Costume (Exclusive)

Dress up as Taylor Swift never goes out of style!

Actress Sarah Drew told PEOPLE at Varietyat the Power of Women event in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 24, which she and her daughter Hannah9-year-old will channel the pop star this year for Halloween.

“She’s going to be Taylor Swift and I’m going to be a Taylor Swift superfan,” Drew, 44, said.

THE Grey’s Anatomy The alum also planned a costume with her son Micah, 12, who she called a “genius.”

“He’s a really incredible filmmaker and every year he comes up with a character that he wants to be in, but it’s not a specific character,” Drew explained. “This year he wants to be a ranger character in the game Dungeons and Dragons. He built his own suit; he sews this coat. I’m also going to become a ranger, which is kind of like a warrior elf, and she’s pretty mean.

Drew said that, for her costume, she planned to buy “pieces on Amazon and put them together.”

“I’m really excited about it,” she continued. “We turn into little costume designers. We are doing everything we can.

Although Drew enjoys planning the holidays with her kids, she admitted that being a working mom comes with its fair share of challenges.

“The results are crazy,” she declared before the Variety event, hosted in partnership with Lifetime and bringing together a group of female media and entertainment philanthropists to recognize their influence. “I was gone for 10 weeks this summer filming a show that I star in and am executive producer of, and it was really hard leaving the kids. But I have a very clear message when I talk to them about it, and that is: ‘I don’t like being away from you.’ I miss you when I’m away from you, but I love what I do so much. And I feel like I’m living my purpose when I can do these things.

The mother of two explained that she tries to never be sad when she leaves her children for a work project. “If that was my attitude, then they would say, ‘Well, then why do it?'” Drew said. “I work very hard to tell them how much beauty there is, but also the purpose and mission of doing this great work.”

Then attracted stars Mistletoe Murdersa six-episode Hallmark+ series based on an Audible podcast of the same name. She plays Emily, the owner of a Christmas-themed store in a small town who finds herself involved in solving local murders with the help of a pretty local police detective and her teenage daughter. Despite Emily’s seemingly picturesque life, she harbors a secret past that could unravel as the investigation progresses.
