by Lawson R.B. his teammate Yuki Tsunoda does not appear to be a serious candidate for the role, meaning Perez is battling someone who has raced in 270 fewer Grands Prix than him.

Red Bull will consider many different factors when determining which driver to choose for 2025.

However, Lawson’s potential has turned heads and his ability to hold off Perez and Lewis Hamilton in dangerous conditions in Brazil will not have gone unnoticed.

A report of Marca shared another interesting factor the team could consider: their performance in the simulator.

Lawson tested the RB20 in recent private tests but he doesn’t have as much experience in the car as Perez.

This means that team principal Christian Horner is trying to judge his performance in a RB with Perez’s in a Red Bull, which is not easy.

Therefore, the work done in the simulator can give senior managers the best opportunity to compare each driver.

Marca’s report suggests Lawson could be “further away” from Verstappen than Perez currently is in the RB20.

They believe that in tests carried out in the simulator, Lawson, Tsunoda and even Daniel Ricciardo could beat Perez’s lap times.

That’s because the car is so difficult to drive that even if Perez struggles, his added experience in dealing with those issues gives him an advantage over Lawson.

However, if Red Bull can identify and resolve these issues with its 2025 car, Perez’s advantage over the 22-year-old will suddenly dissipate.

Lawson incurred the wrath of Fernando Alonso on his return to F1, but he has fought much more closely with Pérez in the last two Grands Prix.
