If icy or foggy car windows are keeping you from getting on the road when you’re already late for work, there’s a trick with a common household item that can help.

In a video with more than 289,000 views, TikToker Ceith Griffith (@ceithgriffith) states that Dawn Platinum Powerwash Dish Spray sprayed on the inside and outside of your windshield will prevent your windows from icing or fogging up.

“Just take a cloth and wipe it off. You don’t want to add water,” he says. “Just wipe until it’s gone from your windshield.”

Griffith says this hack will keep your windows clear for up to three months.

Does the hack work?

Griffith has previously released other hacks, like using deodorant to protect headlights and rubbing alcohol to quickly defrost windowswhich went viral on TikTok. While several viewers have tried the Dawn dish soap hack, they say it doesn’t deliver the results promised.

“I completely scrubbed it and it was horrible. There was a movie and it took me forever to remove it. No, thanks,” one commented.

“I tried that. It really stained!! said another.

“I tried this, and my windows were fogged up and dirty,” adds a third. Griffith responds, “You have to make sure you get it in, or you’ll have a movie. »

Other Windshield Hacks

If you don’t have Dawn on hand, there are other ways to prevent windshield fogging in the morning.

Anti-fog sprays are available for less than $10 at most automotive supply stores. Or, you can use a sock filled with cat litter to suck moisture from the cabin, thus preventing fogging when you turn on your car.

Alternatively, a thin layer of shaving creamwhich you wipe off after applying it to the inside of your windshield, can prevent fog from blocking your view.

“Interesting, but does it foam when it rains?” we ask.

“Will you talk when it rains?” Do you need to reapply dawn? » another wrote.

Some were just grateful for the tip.

“Ty for great information,” one viewer wrote.

“Thanks for sharing these cool tips,” said another.

“Great, I’ll try this trick,” added a third.
