Did Trump win or did the Democrats lose?

In my article published here on August 29, I wrote that the vice president and Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, had built her campaign largely on abortion issuethat she believes that abortion will never lose if put to the ballot, and that if Harris won, it would mean that abortion would be the number one choice for a large country like the United States. I went on to state that if former president and Republican candidate Donald Trump wins, Harris, who has previously run unsuccessful campaigns, will be accused of saying too much about abortion and not giving enough of weight to other arguments, and to have constructed its own defeat.

Harris “aborted” politics

Although Harris emphasized other issues in subsequent months, such as her middle-class background, abortion always remained the most important issue to her and her propagandists. This was used to express fear that women’s rights would be suppressed and the country would move backwards. In the days leading up to the election, famous actresses Natalie Portman and Jessica Alba, who support Harris, were still promoting abortion on social media. MSNBC, one of Harris’ most prominent media supporters, did not hesitate to mention that black people would have difficulty obtaining abortions, even when she explained in her last broadcasts that the situation would be bad for them. She continued her analysis shows entitled “Abortion”.

On the other hand, Trump highlighted the poor inflation trend and high prices that the public was complaining about and stoked fears that if this continued for another four years, the economy would be so bad that it would not would not recover. The other problem he highlighted, besides the economy, is that of illegal immigration. He made propaganda that if it continued on this path, Americans would no longer have a country. He worked through these fears in almost every event where he appeared in front of people. In fact, the first promise he emphasized in his first speech after his election victory was about immigrants. Furthermore, JD Vance, whom he invited on stage and who will become vice president, declared: “Just as they have made the greatest political comeback in American history, they will also make the greatest economic comeback. » They brought up the issues of immigration and the economy, which they had placed at the forefront before the election and immediately after the victory.

There were also differences between the parties’ reactions to the imposed fears. Trump insisted that states would decide on the issue of abortion, that he supported the measure for victims of rape and incest and that he would not impose a ban by force. The fact that he did not do such a thing during his previous presidency also supports his statements. However, immediately after his words, the Harrisist media claimed that he was not to be believed. On the other hand, Harris’ camp was unable to counter the fear cannons fired by Trump. When asked about economics, she started laughingly saying that she was born in a middle-class family and could not come up with any convincing plans, which only led to ridicule Harris. Being primarily responsible for the flow of illegal immigration was another disadvantage for Harris.

The shortcomings of the Biden era

Furthermore, the aforementioned failures of the President Joe Biden era, which Democrats have struggled to respond to, and the fact that it has not really brought peace and prosperity compared to the Trump era have partially damaged the validity of the Trump scare perpetrated by Democratic media. . The public could evaluate the experience of Trump and his opponent by living through their administrations. They concluded that Trump was unnecessarily denigrated and the other was exaggerated. One of them, notably, was Black Lives Matter activist Mark Fisher, who, despite being a lifelong Democrat, announced that he regretted supporting Biden in 2020 and called for support Trump just before the election. In other words, ruptures could be seen even in places most anti-Trump.

Another problem was undoubtedly Trump’s tough stance and image of him devoting his life to America after being the victim of repeated assassination attempts. On the other hand, there was the miserable image of Biden, who constantly went on vacation and provided Trump with something to say: “Do we have a president? or “No one wants to see you in a swimsuit”, and which actually fell to the ground at different times and places.

As for Harris’s image, she could not even appear in front of a journalist for an interview for a long time, made serious mistakes when she finally did, and also avoided press conferences. Although Harris corrected this weak image in the only debate she had with Trump, it was only one evening. Indeed, during this debate, while Trump answered almost every question, even if sometimes incorrectly, it was found that Harris could not answer many of his accusations and counterarguments. It is for this reason that in my article published in the Daily Sabah on September 21, I revealed Harris’ attitude. overlooked gaps in the debate, arguing that the debate alone would not help Harris win.

In this firm and honorable stance, the issue that Harris was most unable to respond to and Trump lashed out at most was the Afghanistan withdrawal incident. According to Trump, this is the most shameful incident in American history, and whenever Trump brings up Afghanistan, he always underlines it with this observation. Democrats have found no significant shield against this incident, which is one of the main reasons for the decline in Biden’s approval rating over the years.

As if that wasn’t enough, they resorted to trivializing the assassination attempt on Trump with highly inappropriate expressions and even questioning it in a way that would scare away many people. On November 4, MSNBC commentators were still talking about the “alleged” assassination attempt, even using quotation marks to describe Trump’s victim status, but despite this, they were trying to downplay the topic by claiming it was him who actually provoked the violence. . It was clear that these actions would serve no purpose other than to justify the rhetoric from Trump’s camp, which called the media “enemies of the people” and that he was in a serious fight with them. In other words, in trying to weaken him, they made the mistake of implicitly supporting his image as “strong” and a “fighter” for America.

Democrats lost, Trump won

Aside from that, Harris has made numerous gaffes and contradictory remarks. While she previously said she would ban fracking, which is one of the important issues for Pennsylvania voters, she backtracked and said she would not ban it when considering the situation as critical during the election. Trump held numerous rallies in Pennsylvania during the election process and frequently stressed that she had gone backwards on the issue and was unreliable. On the one hand, Harris talked about banning guns; on the other hand, she argued that saying so was consistent with the right to bear arms. On the other hand, in her interview with Oprah on September 20, she laughed and claimed that a person would be shot if they entered her home. Even Oprah, one of his biggest supporters, listened to this with a surprised face. A video of Americans complaining about their financial woes was also shown on the same Oprah show, as if the current president were Trump. The question of why they did not resolve this problem during their tenure was not answered convincingly. It was obvious that Oprah was shouting “Joooy!” to the Democratic Convention would not fill all of these gaps.

Even in recent days, Harris’ mistakes have continued. At the October 31 rally in Arizona, she said, “I have fought for many who have hurt other people,” and without realizing what she said, she continued her words and was mocked again on Fox News one evening. Meanwhile, Biden made the situation worse by insulting Trump supporters. We can summarize these errors, which are too numerous to contain in this article, as follows: Harris and his supporters tried to drive the car by bumping it all the way down the road and eventually hit a wall.

Given all of this, we can conclude that the Democrats’ most fundamental mistake was not nominating a candidate who was not part of the Biden administration. That way, they could have put forward someone with a relatively strong record on issues like the economy, immigration and Afghanistan, which Trump is most concerned about and where Democrats have been most powerless. Against Trump, whose name has been worn down both by his own mistakes and by an effective smear campaign, running even more exhausted candidates who have exhausted themselves is a goal for Democrats. This goal made the match 1-0. Meanwhile, Trump scored 2-0 thanks to his stance and more convincing rhetoric.

Trump’s big promises

In 2017, hate crimes increased by 18% in major US cities. Images of Trump supporters taking their children with them and attacking mosques have spread across the internet. The increase in violence continued until the incident on January 6, 2021. Today we have Trump, who was the victim of assassination attempts several times during his candidacy. Another attempt could take place during his presidency. The rise in violence and hateful acts may continue dangerously.

Trump claimed he would revive the golden age of American history, achieve unprecedented success and achieve the greatest things in history. Of course, there is a big difference between speaking at a rally when in opposition and keeping your promises when in power. His failure to properly handle the coronavirus, the first serious crisis he faced last time, led to his defeat. Today, he takes office with a promise to bring peace to a world in even greater crisis and to make everything beautiful. Time will tell if his experience will help him be more successful.
