Letitia James vows to fight Trump’s ‘retaliation’ after

Attorney General of New York Letitia James told reporters Wednesday she would fight the former president Donald Trump whether he used the presidency to seek “retaliation” against her after her election victory on Tuesday.

Jacqueswhose office attacked Asset in a civil suit that barred her from doing business in New York for three years, she also indicated she would work with him if necessary.

While Trump’s legal problems are expected to largely disappear following his historic defeat as vice president. Kamla HarrisJames spoke to the media on Wednesday afternoon. Jacques said:

We worked both in my office and with other Democratic attorneys general across the country to ensure that we would be prepared to respond to any attempt to roll back our rights. So here we are. We studied their platforms. We have identified certain possibilities, patterns of facts. We have created contingency plans. It doesn’t matter what the next administration has in store for us. We are ready. We are ready to respond to their attacks. We stand ready to respond to any attempt to reduce or eliminate all funding to the great state of New York, as the Governor has outlined.

So, despite what has happened on the national stage, we will continue to stand firm in the face of injustice, revenge or retaliation. We will continue to protect the most vulnerable and marginalized among us. Because it is my duty and my responsibility to lead this fight. Working with the governor of this great state, Kathy Hochul. Now is not the time to be afraid, New York. But faithful and steadfast. Knowing that I, as Attorney General, along with my entire team, are the guardians of the law. And we are ready, my friends, to fight back. THANKS.

James also congratulated Trump on his election victory.

His office filed a civil suit against Trump, accusing his company of fraudulent business practices in which the Trump Organization inflated the value of its assets to obtain favorable loan terms from banks.

New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron banned the president-elect from running a New York-based company for three years and ordered him and his company to pay a $354 million fine.

Trump, who called the case a political witch hunt, is awaiting sentencing after a Manhattan criminal jury found him guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records.

The nation’s 45th and soon-to-be 47th president also has unresolved legal issues in Georgia and two federal lawsuits against him — one for alleged mishandling of classified documents and another for election interference.

As a politician noteTrump’s criminal cases should all but disappear with his election victory:

Trump’s imminent return to the White House shatters years of work by special counsel Jack Smith to convict Trump for his attempt to overturn the 2020 election and for the stockpile of classified documents he kept at his Florida estate.

It also ends the prosecution he faces in Georgia for his 2020 election plot.

This almost certainly allows Trump to defer any sentencing following his conviction in New York for concealing a hush money scheme in 2016.
