In a race that she was to lose after several notable abandonments, “Rising star of TDN” and champion elected 3-year-old filly Thorpedo Anna (f, 3, Fast Anna–Sataves, by Uncle Mo) effortlessly captured Saturday’s GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Del Mar.

Travel comfortably despite 4-1 seconds of choice Raging sea (Curlin) staying glued to her outside flank, Thorpedo Anna at 2-5 set easy fractions of :23.81 and :47.99, then simply moved away down the stretch to put both daylight on the field and an exclamation point on his championship season, which included five Freshman victories.

His only loss this year was to last year’s champion 2-year-old colt, Fierceness (City of Light) in the GI Travers Stakes. She returned to the winner’s circle to the cheers of the crowd and was immediately considered for Horse of the Year honors.

Thorpedo Anna won the nine Distaff furlongs in 1:49.10. Raging Sea takes second place, while Candied (Candy walk {Arg}) finished third. Trainer Kenny McPeek confirmed in the winner’s circle that his plan was to race Thorpedo Anna next year at four.
