Have you ever wondered how much a surgery, x-ray or medical appointment will cost you?

A new Colorado tool, spear by the state and non-profit PatientRightsAdvocate.orgprovides patients with the ability to easily search for these answers.

Called the Price Finder for Colorado HospitalsThe online tool lets you search for a hospital and see how much it charges based on who pays, whether it’s an insurance company, employer, or otherwise.

Although the tool offers information based on past charges, it cautions that actual costs must be verified by the hospital or provider.

The tool uses health care information made available as part of a State Law of 2022 which requires hospitals to publish clear and accessible pricing information for all items and services.

“For too long, there has been a veil of secrecy and confusion that has made it difficult for payers, whether employers, municipalities, school districts and other health care purchasers, to to negotiate lower prices with hospitals,” the lieutenant governor said. Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing released a similar tool in September, which compares multiple hospitals’ gross charges, cash discounted prices, estimated Medicare costs and commercially negotiated prices. This toolleveraging similar data made available by the 2022 state law and the 2021 federal Price Transparency Rule, organizes and displays it differently than the new Colorado Hospital Price Finder.
