Tamera Mowry Says Her 12-Year-Old Son Believes in Santa to Make Him Happy (Exclusive)

Consider Tamera Mowry-HousleyIt is son Aden a believer.

The 46-year-old actress tells PEOPLE that her 12-year-old son is skeptical about Santa Clausbut “I think he believes for us,” she said.

“It’s really nice because he asks questions, so I think he knows, but he also has a younger sister. Your fear when you have two kids and one of them is a little older and they find out is that maybe they’ll tell their younger sibling. He handles it so well.

Meanwhile, her daughter loudly asked for a gift. “She wants a drum kit and a bass guitar,” says the former child star. “My daughter is in a garage band. She is good at playing bass. It was a nice shock for us because we don’t have anyone in our family who plays an instrument. I don’t know the battery yet. We’ll start with the bass.

No matter what Santa brings, Mowry knows what Christmas dinner will look like.

“We need to make a roast.” There’s nothing like a good roast with mashed potatoes and green beans,” says Mowry. “I always do a signature drink, but my sister-in-law, she’s pregnant, my brother doesn’t drink anymore, so I feel like I’m going to have to do a non-alcoholic signature drink this year. I’m excited.”

In Scouting for ChristmasMowry plays a single mother who tries to balance her job as a real estate agent with helping her 10-year-old daughter get to her extracurricular activities, like Sunny Scouts, on time.

“You have moms who can be there every moment of their child’s life, and it’s wonderful. There are also working mothers trying to make ends meet and achieve their dreams,” says Mowry. “Everyone has different options and you need to do what is right for you and your family. But as long as you’re doing your best, you’re doing enough.

This can be difficult to remember during the hectic holiday season. “There are days when you get it and you say, ‘Wow, I’m Supermom.’ “And then there are days when it doesn’t work out because life isn’t perfect,” Mowry admits. “You just have to accept, pivot, love and get through it.”

The mother of two likes to prioritize quality time with her children rather than quantity. “Quantity and quality are two different things,” says Mowry. “Some families spend a lot of time, but they don’t really spend quality time. Like, are you there? Are you really there? That’s what’s important.
