Jennie Kim’s Jeans Are a Casual Take on a Runway Trend

Forget Quiet Luxury creams and beiges, Jennie Kim now classifies leopard print as neutral. Like any neutral, this means you can dress it up for a gala or dress it up to take a piece.

During a recent trip to Japan, the Blackpink star put a casual spin on the animal print trend with a pair of low-rise baggy jeans. The singer paired her statement pants with a handful of standard wardrobe staples: a fitted black zip-up, flat-soled shoes and a leather messenger bag. Jennie’s decision to offset the pizzazz of her leopard with monochrome everywhere else was just the latest inkling that the 2000s-inspired print is making a comeback.

Jennie is far from the only star to advocate for animal print as a neutral. At Paris Fashion Week in September, Kate Moss followed the exact same formula as Jennie. The model, dressed in jet black skinny jeans and knee-high boots, carried a leopard-print hobo bag by Saint Laurent while hanging out with her daughter Lila. And on that same Paris trip, Kate taught everyone how to dress in animal print. She wore a leopard coat (also from Saint Laurent) with another, albeit more formal, all-black outfit.

On the opposite end of the leopard spectrum are the “loud” versions worn by Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna. This latest star was just spotted in Los Angeles a few days ago wearing head-to-toe animal print that could have been classified as pajamas. Rihanna also got involved cow-hide and mix and match zebra print during another evening in Los Angeles.

Between Rihanna, Kate and Jennie, there’s a clear trend for how stars are approaching the leopard print trend. Some, like Rihanna, do it by pairing it with bold accessories. Or they even pair, say, leopard print with cheetah print to double the effect. Then there are those who use animal motifs in a more neutral way – look no further than Kate’s outing to Paris or Jennie’s last moment of rest.
