I-85 reopens after hours-long closure following tractor-trailer crashes in northeast Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Interstate 85 North has reopened in the University area following several crashes involving a tractor-trailer Friday evening, according to authorities.

According to the State Highway Patrol, around 8:50 p.m., a tractor-trailer traveling north on I-85 struck the center reservation, toppling utility poles. Several vehicles then struck the fallen power poles.

As a result, I-85 was closed at the I-85 Connector, via Mallard Creek Church Road for several hours.

The Mecklenburg EMS agency said it took two people to the hospital, one emergency and the other non-emergency.
