For 20 years, Klum has been the queen of Halloween for her extravagant costumes, like that of Fiona from ShrekJessica Rabbit and the werewolf from Michael Jackson’s 1982 music video for “Thriller.”

“I accept this title!” And I always want to live up to it, year after year,” Klum said at the time of her title as Halloween queen. “When I moved to America, I immediately fell in love with Halloween and how spooky it was. All that was missing was a fantastic party. It was a real opportunity for me.

So how does she go about making her Halloween costumes each year? Well, Klum told THR that she’s starting to think about next year’s costume the day after Halloween. “I start thinking about it on November 1st! I usually have two or three ideas that I play with and then decide on one thing. You have to decide at some point because rooms have to be built and all that,” she said. “So as soon as the party is over, on the morning of November 1, I start thinking, ‘Maybe next year I’ll do that one that I didn’t do this year.’ And then, obviously, throughout the year, new things come to mind because maybe I saw a movie, or I went to a country and I was inspired by something that I saw there. 2001: Lady Godiva

For Heidi Klum’s 2001 Halloween costume, the model rode to a Halloween party on horseback as Lady Godiva. Her look was complete with a long, floor-length wig and an ethereal headpiece.

2002: Betty Boop

Heidi Klum’s 2002 Halloween costume as Betty Boop will go down in Halloween history. From the lashes to the curls, she nailed this look. Of course, she had to add her own Halloween touch with vampire fangs.

2004: Witch

Heidi Klum’s costume in 2004 was no ordinary witch. The model accompanied her outfit with bones, a bright red wig and a broomstick.

2005: Vampires

Sure, vampires are common at Halloween, but Heidi Klum’s 2005 Halloween costume was one of the best leeches we’ve seen.

2006: Forbidden fruit

For Heidi Klum’s 2006 Halloween costume, the model channeled the biblical story of Eve and the forbidden fruit. She dressed as both a fruit and a snake. Her husband at the time, Seal, was Eve.

2007: Cat

Heidi Klum’s 2007 Halloween costume was anything but basic. The model looked like it came straight out of Cats Broadway musical in this authentic fur costume.

2008: Kali

One of her problematic costumes, Heidi Klum’s 2008 Halloween costume, was Kali, the Hindu goddess of death and time (or at least her interpretation of the goddess). The look consisted of a blue costume with many arms and swords.

2009: Raven

The model is known for her legs, so it’s no surprise that Heidi Klum’s 2009 Halloween costume was a sexy raven. At the top, Klum was a raven, with black wings and a beak. Below, the model showed off her best assets: her legs in knee-high boots.

2010: Robots

For Heidi Klum’s 2010 Halloween costume, the model wore stilts and dressed like a dizzying red and purple robot. Next to her was her husband, Seal, dressed as a much smaller silver robot.

2011: Monkey

Also for Heidi Klum’s 2011 Halloween costume, the model and her then-husband, Seal, were dressed as monkeys. The costumes were almost identical, except Klum’s had obvious nipples.

2011: Human body

Heidi Klum’s Halloween costume in 2011 was a human body, but not just any human body. Klum dressed as a human body without hair or skin. On the red carpet at her Halloween party, Klum also lay on an operating table while fake doctors evaluated her.

2012: Cleopatra

Heidi Klum’s 2012 Halloween costume was Cleopatra. The model walked the red carpet at her Halloween party dressed head to toe in gold, including a royal headpiece.

2014: Butterfly

For Heidi Klum’s 2014 Halloween costume, the model dressed as a butterfly with massive wings. She also painted her body in shades of blue and white to mimic the dazzling colors of a butterfly.

2015: Jessica Lapin

Heidi Klum’s 2015 Halloween costume as Jessica Rabbit is one of her best. Klum almost looked like the 1988 cartoon character Who Framed Roger Rabbit in a tight red dress, blue latex gloves and tons of prosthetics to mimic Jessica Rabbit’s artificial proportions.

2016: Clone

On its own, Heidi Klum’s 2016 Halloween costume isn’t that impressive. But with five clones of herself, the model won the holiday. For 2016, Kluim recruited five models who looked like her for a trippy Halloween costume. Each model wore the same high boots and leotard. Klum’s “clones” of course also wore prosthetics to appear even more identical to the model.

2017: The Werewolf in “Thriller”

Heidi Klum’s 2017 Halloween costume was the werewolf in the music video for Michael Jackson’s 1982 song “Thriller.” The look consisted of a red and yellow letterman jacket, blue jeans, and, of course, a mask werewolf and prosthetics identical to the monster in Jackson’s video. Klum accompanied her costume with a mini-performance of Jackson’s choreography in New York.

2018: Fiona from Shrek

For Heidi Klum’s 2018 Halloween costume, she and her husband, Tom Kaulitz, dressed as the lead couple from the 2001 film. Shrek. Kaulitz was the main character, while Klum dressed as Princess Fiona. Their looks, of course, were complemented by green prosthetics for an authentic ogre look.

2019: Flesh-Eating Alien

For Heidi Klum’s Halloween 2019 costume, she and her husband, Tom Kaulitz, dressed as a standout duo. Klum was dressed as a nearly naked, flesh-eating alien, while her husband was the damn astronaut we had just feasted on. Klum’s costume required 10 hours of prosthetics and makeup. She livestreamed the process of creating her Halloween costume on Amazon.

2020: his own horror film character

Because Halloween was canceled in 2020, Klum made her own film #HeidiHalloween2020, in which she was haunted by monsters in her house played by herself. “Halloween is different this year, but that shouldn’t stop us from getting creative at home Be safe, be spooky, and spend time with family. #HeidiHalloween2020,” she captioned the five-minute film on her Instagram.

2021: His own horror film character, part 2

For Heidi Klum’s Halloween costume in 2021, she once again forewent her annual Halloween party and shot an original horror short, in which she paid homage to several iconic horror films, of which Psychology. The short also saw her play several monsters, including a dead version of herself rising from her grave and a flesh-eating cannibal.

2022: a worm

Heidi Klum’s Halloween 2022 costume was a life-size worm. The head-to-toe costume was complete with crests, a curved head, and a long tail. Klum’s husband, Tom Kaulitz, was dressed as a fisherman with a bloody eye and had the hook of his fishing rod attached to Klum’s costume. Klum’s entire body was covered, except for her eyes and mouth, as well as her beige sneakers, which peeked out from the bottom of her suit. Klum debuted her costume at her annual Halloween party at Sake No Hana at Moxy in New York. “Absolutely addicted to last night’s looks ,” Klum captioned an Instagram photo of her costume.

2023: A peacock

Heidi Klum’s Halloween costume for 2023 was an eye-catching peacock that could accommodate several people. “I was like, ‘How the hell do I top this rainworm?'” Klum said during a dress rehearsal the day before the big reveal, according to the New York Times. Dressed in prosthetics and a blue velvet leotard, Heidi was the body of the bird and 10 Cirque du Soleil artists crafted the fan-shaped peacock tail – no real feathers were used.

2024: ET

Heidi Klum dressed up as beloved ’80s ET in ET’s The Extra-Terrestrial alongside husband Tom Kaulitz. “When I was 9 years old in Germany, ET introduced me to the idea that there is life outside of planet Earth. So last year we all put our heads together to figure out how to put my own stamp on such an iconic character,” she wrote on Instagram.
