San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall didn’t have much time to build chemistry with the quarterback Brock Purdy. Pearsall only recently returned to the training ground after missing significant time due to an incident in August in which he was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery.

Pearsall has played the last two games and is gradually working his way into a bigger role up front. He’s caught seven passes for 59 yards on nine targets and is still looking for his first NFL touchdown. He believes this step will be taken as his relationship with Purdy develops.

“It gets better every practice,” Pearsall said Thursday of his chemistry with Purdy. “The more reps we do, the better the timing of our stuff will be. You can kind of see it after weeks of practice, and then it’ll continue to get better.”

Pearsall didn’t have a definitive answer when asked how long it typically takes a quarterback and receiver to find a rhythm.

“I think it’s just about making each other feel better,” Pearsall said. “I’m in a unique situation where I missed training camp and the first few weeks, so I’m just trying to make up for the time we lost.”

Pearsall has no shortage of confidence, leaving no doubt in his mind that the production will eventually happen.

“I consider myself a great playmaker,” Pearsall commented. “So when those opportunities present themselves, go out there, execute the play and create an impact on the game.”

He admitted to feeling more comfortable in his second game than in his NFL debut, which bodes well for his development in the second half of the season.

“I think I was going faster, staying in the system a little longer and having a few practices under my belt,” Pearsall said. “So I think it’s going to continue to get better. I’m going to continue to go faster and faster and get more comfortable out there.”
