Nintendo Switch 2 Rumor Offers Hope to Fans Worried About Scalpers

If you’ve been trying to get a PlayStation 5 in fall 2020, you know how difficult it can be to get a console at launch. Nintendo fans are understandably worried about a similar situation with the company’s next console, but there appears to be reason for hope. According to a new rumor shared on the Family paintings by user ninspider (via Gaming Leaks and Rumors), Nintendo will have quantities approximately 2.5 times greater than those made available for the original Switch. As of March 2017, Nintendo has released approximately 2.74 million consoles. If ninspider’s information is correct, this would mean Nintendo will have nearly 7 million consoles available during the launch window.

During a Q&A session with investors earlier this year, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa addressed the possibility of scalpers and resellers making it difficult to obtain the new consolelike they did with the PS5. Furukawa noted that “the most important thing is to produce enough to meet customer demand.” If ninspider’s estimate is correct, Nintendo is really trying to ensure that there will be enough product available in that first month. It remains to be seen whether this number of consoles will still be enough to meet demand, but it seems that Nintendo is making an effort.

Metroid Prime 4, a Nintendo Switch game from 2025

As with any rumor, readers are encouraged to take this one with a grain of salt. Right now, we don’t know much for sure about the so-called “Nintendo Switch 2.” Nintendo has been very secretive about the new console, offering only a few details over the past few years. We know that the console will be backwards compatible with current Nintendo Switch games and will continue the current Nintendo Account system. Nintendo Switch Online will also continue into this new era, meaning existing apps for older consoles like the Super Nintendo and Game Boy will remain playable on the new console. A full reveal of the console will take place before the end of March 2025.and Nintendo said there would be a shorter wait between console announcement and launch than we saw with Switch.
