Arthur Easton murder case: Police travel to three Australian states in search of killer in 39-year-old case

“Our team is determined to find the person responsible for Arthur’s murder and as part of this investigation, information has led us to travel to Australia to speak to a number of people.

“In speaking with these individuals, we received additional context regarding some of the initial information provided to police almost 40 years ago.

“We continue to work on the information received, which has been essential in this case.”

Easton died aged 52 after confronting a male intruder at the family’s Grove Rd home with his two teenage sons on October 13, 1985 at around 8pm.

At the time, the killer wore a brown wool hat pulled down over his face and was armed with a bayonet.

Police went to Australia, traveling across three states, in search of Arthur Easton's killer.

Easton was stabbed multiple times, with the knife fleeing the south Auckland property.

The woolen hat and bayonet were found at the home on Grove Road.

Alan Hall was wrongly convicted of Easton’s murder in 1986 and spent 19 years behind bars before his conviction was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2022, with judges ruling that key evidence in his trial was “materially altered.”

Today, Adkin said police hoped people from Papakura and the wider community would continue to come forward.

“There are still people who have not yet spoken to the police who may have information relating to Arthur’s death.

“Please contact us, now is the time to share what you know, no matter how small it may seem.”
