Billy Napier updates DJ Lagway’s status after Texas game

Billy Napier provided an update on Florida quarterback DJ Lagway on Saturday, following the Gators’ brutal 49-17 road loss to the Texas Longhorns.

Lagway, who had been Florida’s starting quarterback since veteran Graham Mertz was injured earlier this season, did not take the field in the loss due to an injury he suffered over the weekend. last against Georgia.

It was substitute Aidan Warner who got the nod in his place. Warner completed 12 of 25 passes for 132 yards with 2 interceptions on Saturday.

From what Napier said, it appears Lagway could have taken the field this weekend, but precautions were taken to avoid putting him on the field when he wasn’t at full capacity.

“(Lagway) got better every day, a little better with every opportunity,” Napier said. “I think he probably felt as good as he has since his pre-match injury… but not quite ready, I think you risk putting him out with a soft tissue injury… but we Let’s hope he’s made progress.”

There seems to be a sense of optimism here, but the Gators are certainly hoping to have their QB1 back in tip-top shape in time for the next game on the schedule against the No. 14-ranked LSU Tigers at The Swamp. Kickoff between the two rival teams is set for 3:30 p.m. ET in Gainesville.
