WNBA Finals MVP Jonquel Jones Refuses to Tag Caitlin Clark and Fever Fans

After the 2024 WNBA playoff series between the Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun ended, Sun star forward Alyssa Thomas shouted hatred that she and her teammates received from the Fever fan base, which she said intensified with the arrival of Caitlin Clark and her huge fan base in Indiana.

This has sparked a lot of discussion within the women’s basketball community, with the common question being whether this hatred actually comes from Clark/Fever fans, or if they are simply “trolls” as Clark claimed.

And WNBA Finals MVP Jonquel Jones voiced his stance on that sentiment during his recent appearance on “The Pivot Podcast” with Ryan Clark.

“I think a lot of fans, Caitlin Clark fans, wanted to hold on to Caitlin Clark and then use her as…this fuel to be able to be who they wanted to be,” Jones said. on the podcast. “And I think that’s why there was such a reaction when she I loved the whole Taylor Swift post saying to vote for Kamala Harris because they want her to be the representation of their racism and their worldview, and she’s not like that.

“And I think you have to be careful when you talk about Fever fans because I don’t think it’s Fever fans,” Jones continued. “I think it was people who wanted Caitlin Clark to be a certain way, and they thought she was, and so they became Caitlin Clark fans assuming that. And now they’ve realised’ Oh no, actually she’s not racist.’ And so no, they have to go back and try to find someone else who can embody what they feel.”

It will be interesting to see what the response to Jones’ comments will be within the women’s basketball community.
