The Menendez brothers’ freedom requires more than watching Netflix

THE Menéndez brothers might have had an unlikely ally in the Los Angeles district attorney Georges Gascon, but his successor does not necessarily seem as motivated by public opinion.

LADA-elect Nathan Hochman will take office on December 2, and he further explained that if the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez lands on his desk, he will do it. requires a lot more work than just watching a TV show.

“You really have to go beyond the Netflix documentary,” Hochman said “Hello America” THURSDAY. “If you decide this case based solely on a Netflix documentary, you are doing a disservice to the Menendez brothers, the victims’ family members and the public.”

Gascon had re-sentence previously recommended and even leniency for the Menendez Bros. following the success of Netflix’s “Monsters: The Erik and Lyle Menendez Story” and other similar docuseries. However, he was defeated in last week’s election, which could delay the possibility of both men being released by Christmas.

“Part of the problem with the timing of Gascón’s decision is that there is doubt about that credibility. Was this a fair decision or was it a political ploy? » asked Hochman. “There will be no doubt about the decision I make. »

“I’m not going to ask for a deadline just for the sake of it, we’ll ask for the minimum amount of time necessary to get this job done, because we owe it to the Menendez brothers, we owe it to the public to get this done. Good decision,” a- he concluded.

Last week, Hochman told TheWrap that he intended to familiarize himself “thoroughly with the relevant facts, evidence and the law” before making a decision. Related hearings have been set for the end of the month and in December.

Lyle and Erik, now aged 56 and 53 respectively, were imprisoned since he was found guilty of the double murder of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in 1989. Both were initially sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in 1996.

Both “Monsters: The Story of Erik and Lyle Menendez” and “The Menendez Brothers” are available to stream on Netflix.
