Dodgers’ dramatic Game 1 win averages 15.2 million viewers, most-watched World Series game since 2019

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers’ dramatic 6-3 victory over the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the World Series Friday night — which ended with Freddie Freeman’s grand slam in the 10th inning — averaged 15.2 million viewers on Fox, Fox Deportes, Univision and streaming, making it the game of the Classic most-watched fall release in five years.

It was only the fourth time in 36 World Series games since 2018 that the audience topped 15 million. The last one before Friday was the seventh and decisive game of the 2019 series, when Washington wins 6-2 over Houston for his first championship, the average was 23 million.

According to Nielsen, viewership peaked at 17.8 million between the 10th inning and the conclusion of the game.

This is a 62% increase from last year’s opener between the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks. THE Rangers win 6-5 against Diamondbacks in 11 innings, the average was 9.35 million and it was the least watched opener on record.

Friday’s game was the most-watched opener since Los Angeles’ 3-1 win over the Houston Astros in 2017, averaging 15.33 million. It was also the most-watched Friday show on Fox since Game 3 in 2017 (15.68 million).

The game had a 19.1 rating and 58 share in Los Angeles and a 13.2 rating and 37 share in New York.

Audience is the percentage of households that watch television. Share refers to the percentage of the audience watching it at that time.
