Two new affordable housing projects are moving forward with help from the federal government.

“We know the need for housing is incredibly high here in Edmonton and projects like this will help provide safe, affordable housing to those who need it,” said Coun. Ashley Salvador.

One of the projects will take place in his parish. St. Paul Lutheran Church donated its property located at 9155 79 Ave. at the Right at Home Housing Society.

“This project includes 11 affordable housing units, consisting of seven one-bedroom units, two of which are accessible, two two-bedroom units and two four-bedroom units,” said Marisa Redmond, executive director of the Right at Home Housing Society . .

“It’s completely affordable. This is how we can really ensure that a family can get back on their feet,” he added.

The minister announced $2.8 million in federal funding to launch the project.

“It’s also about providing a flexible community space that can be used by residents and community groups and will be designed to bring King Edward Community Park together,” Boissonnault said.

An additional $6.4 million will be provided to the Métis Capital Housing Corporation to provide 127 transitional homes for people in need.

“Projects like this not only allow us to create jobs and put people to work, but they also strengthen people’s ability to contribute to the economy,” said Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi.
