The Toronto Blue Jays felt Oh so close to the signing of Shohei Ohtani as a free agent last offseason. Now, they appear poised to get back into the star-hunting pool with Juan Soto, the marquee free agent of this year’s class.

Soto officially met with the Blue Jays, whose introduction to Soto was called “impressive” by Jon Heyman of the New York Post:

A similar formulation was used for Describe the Boston Red Sox’s first pitch to Soto. It was also reported that Soto asked the Sox three things: Winning engagement, talent assessment systems and facilities.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan recently was adamant that the Blue Jays are going to acquire a big name this offseason. Although he was hesitant to indicate that the Jays had a good chance of getting Soto, he said“It certainly could be that (it’s Toronto that lands Soto). Don’t overlook them. It’s not something they’re doing just to excite their fan base. Because you know, if they don’t don’t get Soto, this will just be like another dagger after last winter.

Soto made the American League First Team for his play in 2024. He was a vital offseason addition that got the New York Yankees over the hump to their first World Series in 15 years .

There will likely be many more teams making presentations to Soto before he accepts the terms of the offer and weighs his final decision.
