FEMA supervisor fired for ordering workers to ignore hurricane-ravaged homes with Trump signs, but is her reasoning sound?

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was created to help Americans suffering from natural disasters, but what will happen when FEMA supervisors start discriminating against hurricane victims simply based on the political sign posted in their yard?

Marn’i Washington, the former FEMA supervisor who asked workers to avoid hurricane-ravaged homes of Trump supporters in Florida, has been fired from the agency, according to The New York Post. But what is more worrying is that although Washington’s directive has been described as an “isolated incident”, it has now revealed that it was not alone in using its discretion as a result.

Washington said that under FEMA rules, if supervisors notice a trend that could pose a danger to FEMA field workers in a particular area, they will issue a directive to ensure the safety of their crews, regardless of whatever their political beliefs.

“If you look at the facts, there is what we call a ‘community trend’ and, unfortunately, it turns out that the political hostility that my team faced… happened to end up with the flagging of the Trump campaign,” Washington told an exclusive interview with journalist Roland Martin.

In light of political tensions and constant threats against FEMA workers, Washington’s directive might make sense, but unfortunately at least 20 Trump-supporting homes have been forgotten in the midst of a historic hurricane season. The daily feed reported for the first time.

After Washington was fired by the agency, FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell issued a statement saying, “I want to be clear to all of my employees and the American people, this type of behavior and action will not be tolerated at FEMA and we will hold people accountable if they violate these standards of conduct.” »

But Washington insists Criswell is not telling the whole truth. “FEMA always advocates avoidance first, then de-escalation, so this is not an isolated case. This is a colossal avoidance event, not only in the state of Florida, but also in the Carolinas,” Washington said.

Early last month, a North Carolina man was arrested after authorities said he verbally threatened FEMA workers while carrying two firearms, according to NBC News.

“Please do (investigate). They will discover that this is not an isolated case. I repeat it again and again. It’s colossal,” Washington told Martin. “Demand that FEMA provide you with these incident reports. They will support what we are experiencing on the ground.

Another former FEMA employee corroborated Washington’s account, saying The New York Post “Prejudice against Trump supporters goes back years, sometimes justified as part of an effort to serve ‘marginalized’ communities first.”

Meanwhile, many on the right have expressed shock and disapproval over the affair. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis blamed it all on Biden-Harris administration, tweeting “The blatant militarization of government by partisan activists within the federal bureaucracy is another reason the Biden-Harris administration is living its final days.

The investigation into these FEMA practices is ongoing and will likely have significant consequences for the agency.
