2024 election updates: Preview what Harris will say in her Washington ‘pleading’

Several Puerto Ricans on Pennsylvania battleground say comments are controversial a comedian about Puerto Ricans at Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden this weekend will hurt the former president in his quest for the White House.

Ramon Martinez, co-owner with his brother and wife of Mofongo, a Dominican/Puerto Rican restaurant in Reading, Pa., spoke with ABC News’ Terry Moran after the rally at which Tony Hinchcliffe made the joke. Martinez said the comments would play a role in the decisions of undecided Latino voters.

“I think they will take sides when they hear what we heard last night,” Martinez said.

When asked if Hinchcliffe’s comments could harm Trump, Martinez said “yes, I firmly believe that.”

“Every time they speak, they demean immigrants, Latinos. I don’t think that’s the right way to get the Latino vote.”

Moran spoke to voters before Trump’s rally Tuesday night in Allentown, Pennsylvania, a city with a large Puerto Rican population.
