INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) – The city of Independence has issued a burn ban for several days due to high winds and an increased fire risk in the area.

The ban takes effect immediately, after the city announced it Monday afternoon. It will remain in effect until Wednesday October 30 at 7 p.m.

The First Warn 5 Weather Team has issued early warnings throughout the week with gusts up to 50 miles per hour possible Tuesday.

The National Weather Service said dry conditions and high winds increased the risk of fires in Jackson County. These risks remain at high or very high levels until Wednesday evening.
