Prepare to turn your clocks back when Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Like it or not, Daylight Saving Time will end this weekend.

KSLA News 12’s Donna Keeya spoke with residents of Shreveport as we prepare to hunker down.

“Everyone make sure you set those clocks, that’s all I can say, turn those clocks back and be able to get your kids up on time for the school year,” Shantia Smith said.

On Sunday, November 3 at 2 a.m. we will return to standard time. Although we will gain an hour of sleep, we will also lose an hour of sunlight.

“It used to be dark at 6 p.m., but now it’s probably about to get dark around 5 or 4:30…” Cleotha Chew Jr. said.

KSLA First Alert Meteorologist Austin Evans says as it gets darker earlier, you’ll feel the effects.

“This will affect your sleep patterns, and it’s important to monitor this.” You don’t want to stay up later, say Saturday night, just because the clock goes back an hour earlier on Sunday morning. You don’t really want to do that. This could affect your sleeping habits in the future,” he explained.

In speaking with Shreveport residents, one person told KSLA they were excited about the change, and another person said they preferred longer days.

My children, I know for a fact, they are going to sleep. I know I’m going to sleep, but I know for a fact that we’re going to wake up and we’re going to feel good in the morning with an extra hour of sleep,” Smith said.

“It’s better when the days are longer. You can go out and do the things you need to do. But when it’s shorter, you can’t really do anything other than go in the house and relax,” Chew said.
