The Tottenham man plans to cancel his contract after 67 games, with a return to his former club in sight

Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon is reportedly preparing to cancel his contract in January, with his former club Sevilla reportedly preparing a move to bring him back.

Reguilon hasn’t been seen in a Spurs jersey at all this season. He has only been included in a squad once this season, when he was an unused substitute in the League Cup third round match against Coventry in September.

The last time Reguilon played for Tottenham That was in 2021/22, before being loaned out to Atletico Madrid the following season, as well as Manchester United and Brentford last season.

Aware that it is surplus to needs, Caught offside reports that the left-back is considering terminating his contract in January – it is set to expire this summer anyway.

The report cites interest in the Spaniard from La Liga sides Sevilla – where Reguilon made 38 appearances in 2019/20 – and Getafe.

The two clubs are believed to be close to entering into negotiations with Tottenham and Reguilon’s representatives, which could end his deal in north London so he can enjoy a free transfer.

La Liga is not the only thing that interests Reguilon

Reguilon has played for five different Spanish teams, so a return to La Liga could indeed be ideal for him.

But Sevilla and Getafe are apparently not the only teams wanting to sign the left-back.

Recent reports suggested that his former boss José Mourinho wants to take him to Fenerbahce in January.

It was thought he would be available at a reduced price, but it now appears he could leave for nothing, with Fenerbahce perhaps disappointed given two other clubs have made greater strides towards landing Reguilon.

Tottenham summary: Spurs could lose two big assets

Tottenham could also soon lose some big assets. Real Madrid have been frequently linked with Cristian Romero, and it’s reported they could move for him in Januarywhile they also want Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, who could spare Spurs.

Meanwhile, Johnny Cardoso, who Tottenham have a priority option to sign this summer, is on Aston Villa’s radar, and the north London side could have no defense if the Villans choose him this winter.

It would be a real shame for Spurs given that even the midfielder’s own club, Real Betis, believe he is destined to move to Tottenham when he can activate his option.

Meanwhile, Heung-min Son has been identified as a potential signing for the Saudi Pro League, Given his side, they are disappointed the striker will not be offered a new deal in north London.

Joined Tottenham in a £32 million deal on 19 September 2020, with Real Madrid including a £27.5 million buyout clause in his five-year contract.

Made his Spurs debut against Chelsea 10 days later in the League Cup against Chelsea and had an assist in a match his team won on penalties.

Scored his first goal for the club in a 2-1 win over Leeds in May 2021 and enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in north London.

A loss of form saw him struggle for consistency in his second campaign, despite making 31 appearances in all competitions and he was loaned to Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2022.

He made just 12 appearances for the La Liga giants in his homeland and was surprisingly loaned to Premier League rivals Man Utd at the start of the 2023/24 season due to his difficulties at full-back LEFT.

Lasted only half the season at Old Trafford as United opted to activate a break clause in the loan deal following Luke Shaw’s return to form.

I spent the second half of last season at Brentford and impressed. However, the Bees decided not to make the deal permanent.
Has not been included in Tottenham’s Premier League squad for the current campaign after failing to make a move away from the club over the summer and failing to impress Ange Postecoglou.

Has scored twice and added eight assists in 67 appearances for the club to date – stats that are expected to stay that way as he eyes a January exit.
