Ms. Leavitt had just returned from the hospital and was watching Mr. Trump’s rally in Butler, Pa., when shooter Thomas Crooks fired a volley of bullets at the former presidentone of which grazed his ear.

“I looked at my husband and said, ‘Looks like I’m going back to work,'” Ms. Leavitt told the Conservative, a website for conservative women.

“The president literally risked his life to win this election,” she added. “The least I can do is get back to work quickly.”

A few days later, she received an “incredibly warm and kind” phone call from Mr Trump recording her after her birth.

Mr. Trump then handed the phone to his wife, Melania, and the two men “talked about how wonderful it was to be a mother to a boy.”

Ms. Leavitt added: “They talked about their love for Barron, and the president cracked a joke: ‘We have a little boy, but he’s not so little anymore!’ »

Leavitt has always defended Trump

As national press secretary for the Trump campaign, Ms. Leavitt became a fixture on the media circuit, often appearing on television and radio to defend her boss.

Ms. Leavitt stood by Mr. Trump throughout the campaign, accompanying him to Manhattan Criminal Court to his “hush money” trialappearing ringside during a UFC fight with Dana White and traveling the country attending rallies.
