Bowdoin man admits to stealing border agent’s items

PORTLAND — A Bowdoin man admitted Monday to stealing government-issued equipment, including a U.S. Border Patrol agent’s service pistol and badge.

Authorities recovered the stolen property after executing a search warrant at a home on Doughty Road in Bowdoin last year.

Michael J. Hall, 42, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to theft of government property, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and to possession of ammunition, a felony punishable maximum of 15 years in prison.

Both crimes are felonies and can result in fines of up to $250,000.

Hall is in federal custody awaiting sentencing.

Co-defendant Arden Shaw, 51, of Lisbon, was charged with theft of government property. His trial is scheduled for December.

Hall burglarized the Bowdoin home in June and stole items belonging to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, including portable radios, a U.S. Border Patrol Glock 9mm service pistol with a mounted light, body armor, a baton police, US Border Patrol badges, 300 rounds of 9mm ammunition and a government document. -a cell phone and laptop were issued, according to court documents.

Hall also stole two personal handguns and approximately 600 rounds of 9-millimeter parabellum ammunition, a large amount of cash and jewelry from the home, according to prosecutors.

At the time of the burglary, Hall had been convicted of crimes punishable by more than a year in prison in Cumberland County.

The burglary took place at the site of an April 2023 quadruple homicide in Bowdoin, where Joseph Eaton fatally shot his parents, Cynthia Eaton, 62, and David Eaton, 66, of Florida, and his longtime friends date, Robert Eger, 72, and Patti Eger, 62

He was sentenced to life in prison.
