Senator-elect Jim Justice’s famous dog, Babydog, reportedly banned from Senate

It was a difficult day for Senator-elect Jim Justice of West Virginia and his famous dog, Babydog.

Babydog Justice, the unofficial mascot of Justice’s Senate campaign, has reportedly been banned from the voting room, according to a report from Axios.

Axios reports that dogs are not allowed on the floor of the Senate unless they are verifiable service animals, and even then they require additional screening for possible allergies.

Justice would have been informed of the decision during the orientation session of senators-elect Tuesday in the Capitol rotunda. Dogs are regularly allowed on Capitol premises, including in the offices of elected officials. This ban appears to apply only in the Senate, where the legislature votes.

The famous dog first made waves nationally over the summer Republican National Convention in Milwaukee where she joined her father, then-Governor Jim Justice, in a dog-sized chair on stage.

“I know a lot of you want to meet my boyfriend,” Justice said. “So if Babydog could come here.”

She has been a part of West Virginia politics since she was given to justice by her children for Christmas 2019.

“Since then, she has become a favorite of West Virginians across the state. Babydog travels with the governor at almost every stop and is the only one that rivals its popularity. She has truly become a pillar of West Virginia politics,” a Justice spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

It’s unclear whether resolutions could be passed to make an exception for Babydog Justice or other Senate dogs to make appearances on the court.
