FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – The community continued to prepare for the upcoming 20th annual “Christmas on Broadway” on Friday with the felling of a 40-foot Colorado spruce tree.

The felling of the 40-foot Colorado spruce tree follows construction of a tree stand, which was completed by the Boys & Girls Club of Fort Wayne and CME Construction at Broadway Plaza, outside the Shine & Hardin building last Saturday.

The 40-foot Colorado spruce is expected to arrive on site Monday, November 18.

From there, the tree will then be featured as part of the 20th annual “Christmas on Broadway” celebration to be held at the Broadway Plaza, outside the Shine & Hardin Building, beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, November 22 .

The event will feature a parade, tree lighting, fireworks and other holiday-themed activities, celebrating the holiday season in the Summit City.

This year, organizers say the tree will be dedicated to Michael Franke, the late president of the Fort Wayne Komets died at the end of 2023 after a long battle with cancer.

They say Franke was a supporter of the annual Christmas event and championed tree lighting as well as a fireworks display for the community to enjoy.
