Paul scored an eight-round unanimous decision victory over Tyson, in a fight that ultimately failed to deliver the drama and excitement fans expected.

The 27-year-old former YouTuber turned boxer dominated Tyson, 58, who returned to the ring for the first time in nearly two decades in a sanctioned professional fight. The judges’ scorecards reflected the one-sided nature of the fight, with one giving Paul an 80-72 lead and the other two scoring him 79-73.

It also appears that both boxers receive automatic 24-day suspensions from the Texas body that oversaw the fight.

However, these are not disciplinary suspensions, but as the Tyson-Paul match was a professional fight and not an exhibition, both fighters must comply with the mandatory rest rules established by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Under these rules, Tyson and Paul must take three days off for each round they fought. Since the fight lasted eight rounds, both fighters must now rest for a total of 24 days.

“Applicants will automatically be granted rest periods, medical suspensions or medical disqualifications for the following cases…” the official rules state. “All competitors will benefit from a mandatory rest period calculated on three days of rest for each round contested, with at least a minimum mandatory rest period of seven days.”

Netflix had spent months building hype around the fight, which was the platform’s first attempt at live streaming a combat sports event. Before the actual fight, Paul had criticized the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world at length, while Tyson had physically slapped the former. Disney Chain actor during weigh-in, apparently increasing bad blood.

However, the tension fueling the pre-fight buildup evaporated as the fight wore on, and the crowd’s enthusiasm waned, eventually turning to boos when they realized the fight was far away. of the explosive spectacle they had hoped for.

Netflix’s live stream was plagued by persistent buffering, freezes, and other disruptions, making the viewing experience frustrating from the start. The problems didn’t stop with the streaming service itself: production issues also took a toll on the broadcast.

As problems piled up, British presenter Kate Abdo was forced to apologize on air after a series of technical difficulties continued to interrupt Netflix’s live coverage.

It’s unclear who Paul will face next or if Tyson will ever compete in another sanctioned match, but either way, they’ll have to wait.
